September 29 - THE BODY BENDS THE VOW DOES NOT

The passage of time changes the physical form. Aches arrive, energy shifts, and the reflection shows the accumulation of years. Illness alters the daily rhythm of life. Through all these physical transitions, the inner vow remains completely indestructible.

Nichiren Daishonin taught that the mortal human body is the Treasure Tower. Physical afflictions manifest the karma of the past. The resolute mind dedicated to the Mystic Law transforms that karma into brilliant light. The Lotus Sutra functions as the supreme medicine, possessing the power to lengthen the human life span and awaken absolute happiness.

The elderly disciple Abutsu-bo lived in the harsh conditions of Sado Island. He made grueling pilgrimages to Mount Minobu well into his eighties. His aging limbs felt the steep mountain paths, and his spirit soared with devotion. He demonstrated that the human heart holds endless strength. Nichiren Daishonin endured severe bodily weakness for eight years at Mount Minobu, maintaining continuous practice and living the Lotus Sutra unceasingly.
