October 22nd - THE QUIET OF A HOUSE WHERE NO ONE ELSE CHANTS

The house is quiet. Your voice is the only one. Is that enough?

It is ENOUGH. Nichiren Daishonin wrote, "Never seek this Gohonzon outside yourself." The Gohonzon lives within the life of the ordinary person who embraces the Lotus Sutra and chants Namu Myoho Renge Kyo.

In the Abutsu-bo Gosho, the treasure tower rises from the body of the one who chants. Your body is that tower. Your living room is where it stands. The earth, water, fire, wind, and space that make up your body are the five characters of Myoho Renge Kyo. The spot where you sit and chant becomes the place of the assembly on Vulture Peak.

No priest needs to stand beside you. No temple door needs to open. No group needs to gather. The practice belongs to those who chant.

If a Gohonzon is not yet in your home, you may chant facing a quiet, respectful space. The voice of faith calls the Gohonzon forth from within.

Chapter 16 describes a land that remains peaceful and secure. That land is wherever you chant.

So let the silence listen. Chant your morning round and your evening round. Each voice fills the room, then the day.

You are one person, and the whole Law is in the room with you.

    Namu Myoho Renge Kyo.
