October 19th - A WORRIED THOUGHT IS NOT A VERDICT

A worry just crossed your mind right after chanting. What now?

Notice it. Then chant the next Namu Myoho Renge Kyo.

The mind in this age moves like water. Thoughts rise and fall all day long. Nichiren Daishonin compared the heart to a clouded mirror. A mirror gathers dust, and the answer is to polish it. Day and night, one voice of Namu Myoho Renge Kyo at a time, the mirror grows clear.

A passing thought is a visitor, and your VOICE is the master of the house. Each time you chant, the Law vibrates through your life and your surroundings, and delusion turns toward wisdom.

Think of a baby drinking milk. The baby cannot name the taste, and the body grows stronger anyway. The five characters of Myoho Renge Kyo nourish you in the same way, whether your mind felt calm or restless that morning.

Nichiren Daishonin cited the Six Paramitas Sutra with a simple instruction: be MASTER of your heart.

So sit up. Let the worry pass through. Chant again. Then rise and take today’s action, one honest step after another.

You are the master of your heart, and your voice sets the course of your day.

    Namu Myoho Renge Kyo.
