You sit down to chant and your mind runs everywhere. Dinner. A message. An old argument. A song.
Welcome to the normal start of practice.
Ordinary people in the Final Dharma Age carry earthly desires and wandering thoughts. Nichiren Daishonin taught that the Gohonzon exists within the life of the ordinary practitioner who chants Namu Myoho Renge Kyo. Your body is the palace of the ninth consciousness. That palace stays open on the days your mind feels loud.
Practice asks for one simple motion. Notice the thought, then RETURN to your voice and the next Namu Myoho Renge Kyo. Do it again. And again. Each return is a cause planted in the present, and the Law answers it with its full weight.
One voice and one sincere determination are enough to awaken the Buddha nature. Nothing stands between you and the Law, no robes, no rank, no intermediary.
Think of a pond after a pebble drops. The ripples spread, and they settle on their own while the water stays clear.
So chant today with the mind you have. Wander, return, and chant on, one voice at a time. Faith is built in that gentle return, repeated until it becomes your habit.
Namu Myoho Renge Kyo.
