    The Monk Who Kept Bowing

From the Lotus Sutra, Chapter 20, Shakyamuni's own words:

"I deeply respect you. I would not dare treat you with contempt. Why? Because you will all practice the bodhisattva way and will then be able to attain Buddhahood."

He said this to every person he met.

They beat him, threw stones at him, and drove him away.

He kept saying it from a distance.

Shakyamuni tells this story at a specific point in the Lotus Sutra and then reveals who this monk actually was.

That disclosure changes everything about what opposition to your practice means.
